NightShift® Appliance Options

The standard appliance is sufficient for the majority of cases, but you can add wear-time sensors, expansion screws, bite jumpers, custom clasps, posterior springs, buttons, hooks, elastics, power chain, bite planes, habit deterrents and more…all to a single appliance…getting more done with less time and expense. Examples of full and part-time appliances are shown below. Each appliance contains patented springs designed from a proprietary alloy for exceptional efficiency. You have the ability to accurately direct each spring to very specific points on each individual anterior tooth. Limited posterior applications are also possible. See the training presentation for details.

  NightShift® NTA   NightShift® ISR

The standard NightShift® NightTime Appliance (NTA) comes with Adams clasps, ball clasps and six anterior springs, but you can specify preferences. Pictured are sage clasps. It can be worn full-time if the patient wants to speed treatment and avoid additional costs. It’s also the most efficient version for full or part-time wear, as the stainless steel labial bow can be used to provide lingual force or can be offset to hold particular teeth or portions of teeth in position as needed. Cases that won’t require such functions allow for a number of other more esthetic options for those who want full-time wear.   An esthetically pleasing option for the NightShift patient looking to optimize treatment time with full-time wear is the invisible self-retaining (ISR) appliance which has our springs bonded into the material for more efficient tooth movement and is far less expense than other popular invisible options. It may be easier to wear and preferred by some patients. Invisalign* popularized the invisible appliance option by spending millions to make consumers aware of it. Take advantage of the awareness with this appealing economical solution. It’s an excellent option to have in your tool box.

  NightShift® TLB

The Biomers Translucent Labial Bow (TLB) provides another option for full-time use. It is also esthetic and difficult to notice. The labial loops are set farther back and can’t be seen during wear. The bow cannot be bent to provide lingual force on a specific tooth, nor can it be offset to hold all or a portion of one or more teeth in place if indicated. The steel bow would be the proper choice for that. It’s a very attractive option for the right patient.

  NightShift® SDO   NightShift® IDO

For those who want more rapid treatment time with full-time wear, but also want completely undetectable treatment, here are two fully lingual options for daytime wear which are worn in conjunction with the nighttime appliance... the NightShift standard daytime only (SDO) and the invisible daytime only (IDO). They would be an added cost to the patient, but it could be quite reasonable with NightShift and well worth it to the particular patient. Even with the expense of an additional appliance, treatment could still be priced substantially below braces and Invisalign. For enhanced results with these appliances you can bond a thin line of composite on the lingual to keep the springs from riding to the incisal if you prefer greater activation of the springs for more rapid results.

Following are several examples of common variations to treat indicated cases.

Cross bite is quite common and whether aligning cases or not it’s very important to address. It can and often does cause improper growth. The NightShift appliance with bite pads is an excellent and inexpensive way to treat most anterior and some posterior cross bite cases quickly, You don’t need to charge full alignment prices to take a tooth out of cross bite and you can save a growing patient from lots of potential headaches down the road.

Here’s a case with expansion screws and posterior springs. If you look closely you’ll see brackets on the teeth. This doctor was augmenting his fixed treatment to enhance efficiency. The Nightshift appliance has many applications and can be adapted to help resolve many problems.

Here’s a case with an expansion screw and a retractable labial bow. If a tooth or teeth do need to go lingual, you could also do so with a back bend in a stainless steel labial bow or you could add hooks and power chain or just draw the bow closed, depending on the severity of the situation. If you’re new to alignment, you can also consult with the lab for suggestions.

Here’s a case with two custom springs designed to move the bicuspid distally and the cuspid mesially to make space for an implant. At the same time the rest of the anteriors are being aligned.

Here’s a case with posterior pontics, though appliances with them in the anterior is much more common. Once the teeth are moved into proper position the crown, bridge or implant can be placed to perfect the case.

Here’s a case with a tongue crib to allow you to align a case while breaking the habit of a tongue thruster. Numerous habit deterrents can be added to this appliance.

There are many more adaptations the appliance is able to accommodate, yet for the vast majority of patients you’ll see, the standard appliance is all you’ll need, but options are always better than none at all.
