Frequently Asked Questions

Has NightShift been proven effective?
Absolutely! For well over 5 years several thousand people like you, patients of orthodontists and general dentists in three countries, have efficiently and affordably straightened their teeth with this appliance. It has only been since 2008 that we learned several doctors have been successfully treating cases on a part-time basis at night. We’ve seen excellent results to this point. Most people report minimal to moderate discomfort early on, typically subsiding in a week or less. You can also choose from several nearly invisible or completely unseen full-time versions if you’d like to finish treatment sooner. The appliance is suitable for many types of cases, but not all.

What are the best cases for NightShift?
The appliance is quite versatile and can treat many types of cases, though it’s best for crowded teeth with minimal spacing issues. If you have lots of larger spaces between your teeth this is probably not the right appliance for you. Also, if you need the position of your jaws corrected it’s not likely for you. You can look at some of the cases that have been treated with the appliance to get an idea if it will work for you, but asking your dentist or orthodontist is the best way to find out.

What makes NightShift special?
A very unique wire, heat-treated with a proprietary process has allowed us to design a patented spring which delivers very optimal forces for tooth movement. So optimal in fact, we believe we have the only appliance on the market that can move teeth as effectively, wearing it only at night. Something so convenient, that works so well, at such an affordable price is certain to be attractive to a lot of people who want straight teeth.

How long should NightShift treatment take?
This answer depends on several factors which include the severity of your case, your age and the amount of time you choose to wear your appliance each day. The majority of part-time cases are being treated in 6 – 12 months on average with one monthly adjustment. Bi-weekly adjustments will also speed things up if that works for you and your doctor. If nighttime wear is chosen, the appliance should be worn from at least early evening until morning, removing the appliance only to eat and brush. Wearing them longer on weekends or whenever possible will help you finish sooner if you prefer.

How much does NightShift cost?
Cost will depend on the severity of your case and where you live, though the fee for NightShift treatment is typically much less than the cost of braces or Invisalign. It’s not unusual to save $2000 or more and still get the smile you’ve always wanted…conveniently and in a reasonable amount of time. Nobody likes to spend more than they have to.

Is NightShift covered by insurance?
Yes it is. If you have orthodontic coverage, NightShift should be covered by your provider and since reimbursement amounts typically average around $1500, depending on your case your out-of-pocket expense could be zero or at least much more manageable than it would be with braces or Invisalign. We’ve even seen it covered under standard dental insurance as preventative care because crowded teeth can lead to periodontal disease or create other hygiene related issues. You may want explore this.

Is NightShift difficult to wear or maintain?
Absolutely not! It is very easy to insert and remove, which is typically done to eat and brush. When you brush your teeth you should also brush your appliance to keep it clean or you can purchase an ultra-sonic cleaner or effervescent cleaning tablets to do the job for you. Be sure to remove your appliance with equal pressure on both sides as not to break anything. It rarely happens, but it’s better safe than sorry.

Is NightShift only for adults?
No. It can also be used on children and adolescents for interceptive treatments such as eruption guidance and cross bite correction or as a first phase orthodontic treatment where parents understand there is the possibility of additional treatment after NightShift if all permanent teeth are not in. NightShift is regularly used for affordable esthetic improvement in younger patients, often for reasons of self-esteem.
